Steel Ring Buckles, Nickel-Plated, Set of 5

How to Use a Ring Buckle

Fastening a belt without a pin is based on the simple principle of friction and is surprisingly secure. The process is easy:

  1. Thread the end of the leather strap up through the buckle (the ring) from underneath.
  2. Wrap the end of the strap around one side of the ring.
  3. Now, guide the end of the strap back underneath the main part of the belt (under the layer that is already around your waist).
  4. Pull tight. The friction will securely lock the strap in place and prevent it from slipping.

You can use the same principle for fastening straps on bags, shoes, or as a cinch on clothing.

A Glimpse into History: Timeless Functionality

The ring buckle (or annular buckle) is one of the oldest and most basic types of fastener in human history. Its genius lies in its absolute simplicity – it requires no moving parts like a pin or tongue. This makes it extremely durable and easy to produce. Evidence of its use is found across cultures and millennia, from the Romans to the Celts, Vikings, and throughout medieval Europe. It was a universal fastener for people of all social classes, used on everything from simple belts to the closures of luxurious cloaks.

How to Care for Your Buckles

Thanks to the nickel-plated finish, maintenance is very easy.

  • Keep the buckles dry. If the surface gets scratched down to the steel, it may begin to rust at that spot.
  • To clean, simply wipe the surface with a dry or slightly damp cloth to restore its shine.
