Norwegian Viking Sword Petersen Type E sword 9th-10th century
The sword has a leather wrapped grip and includes a brown and black leather scabbard (but without a belt with brass buckle). Classified as a type E sword by the historian Jan Petersen in in the book De Norske Vikingesverd. A photo of an original artifact recently sold at auction by Bonham’s is shown in the photos below.
Petersen estimated this sword type to first have been made as early first half of the ninth century and is particularly associated with the region around Trondheim Norway.
The head and guard are made of brass.
