Appearance and construction: The blade is about 74 cm long and reaches a width of 4.5 cm at the cross guard. It is made of high-quality carbon spring steel CSN 14260 (equivalent to 54SiCr6) and hardened to a hardness of approx. 52-54 HRC. This guarantees a good durability and flexibility of the blade. A distinctive fuller extends over most of the blade, making it both lighter and stiffer. The blade is available either blunt or sharp, so that it can also be used in historical fencing.
The hilt of the sword is designed for a firm grip. It consists of a wooden core that is carefully wrapped in leather and twisted wire. The single straight steel cross guard is about 17.5 cm wide and provides protection for the hand. The sword is topped by a solid pear-shaped pommel that balances the weapon. The balance point is about 13 cm from the cross guard, which contributes to good handling.
Historical classification. According to Oakeshott's typology, it could most likely be classified as a variant of type XII. Swords of this type were widespread from about the 11th to 14th centuries and are the archetypal one-handed weapon of the European knight of that time.
Uses. Thanks to its strength, it can be used safely in the art of fencing (with appropriate protective equipment, of course). You can also use the sword as part of a costume for LARP, theatre, film or as a collector's item or decoration with a historical touch.
Remember that even a blunt sword is made of steel and has a considerable weight. If not handled properly, it can cause serious injury.
- Never point a sword at people or animals, unless it is a controlled and organised fencing exercise with protective equipment.
- Always use full and approved protective equipment (such as quilted body armour, gloves, etc.) when practising a technique or form of fencing.
- Check the condition of the sword before each use: the durability of the pommel, the integrity of the blade (cracks), the condition of the handle and the cross guard.
- When handling the sword, always make sure that there is enough space around you and that no unauthorised persons are within reach.
- Even when not in active use, always store your sword safely and out of reach of children and untrained individuals.
The Regot sword offers you a combination of historical authenticity and functional durability. It is a reliable tool for your sword-fighting activities and a representative piece of equipment that evokes the atmosphere of medieval chivalry.
