The main visual highlight of this diary is undoubtedly its cover. Chainmail is carefully stitched onto a base of genuine cowhide leather. This mail is composed of aluminium rings. Aluminium was chosen quite deliberately – visually it perfectly evokes steel armour, but it is considerably lighter, so the journal will not weigh you down unnecessarily in your pouch or on your belt. The edges of the cover are decoratively laced with a leather cord, which enhances the robust rustic look. To prevent accidental opening, the entire block is secured by a long leather strap that is simply wrapped around the covers.

Paper with a Historic Soul and Suitable Writing Tools

Inside, you will not find any bleached office paper. The block contains handmade paper characterised by a rougher texture, an authentic yellowish hue, and slightly irregular edges. This is exactly what the pages of old chronicles or magical grimoires looked like. Given that leather and paper are natural, hand-processed materials, please bear in mind that the colour shade and texture may differ slightly from the product photographs. Each piece is therefore a complete original.

It is ideal to write or draw on this type of paper with an ordinary pencil, charcoal, a classic ballpoint pen, crayons, or oil paints. We strongly warn you against using ink or watercolours – on this porous handmade paper, the colours would bleed unsightly and your notes could be ruined.

Maintenance and Safety Warnings

Although the journal wears a coat of mail, the rings are made of soft aluminium and are merely butted together (not reinforced with rivets). Therefore, never subject the notebook to heavy pressure or impacts, and do not throw it. The rings could easily stretch, separate, and fall out.

Aluminium rings do not suffer from destructive rust like iron, but they may naturally oxidise over time and turn slightly grey. To revive their finish, simply rub them lightly with a dry cloth. We recommend occasionally treating the leather with a high-quality leather balm containing beeswax so that it remains supple, protected, and does not crack over time.
