This loose cut dress has slightly flared 3/4 sleeves and so-called gores at the sides, extending from the waistline to the hem. Gores, wedge-shaped / triangular pieces of fabric added to expand the shape of a garment, gave medieval clothing a generous flare. It is designed as an early medieval outer garment, as the colour contrasting details (its most notable feature) clearly show. The collar ist fitted with a button and slit closure at the center back. The dress is made from plain cotton fabric and looks best worn with a leather belt. More information...

Early Medieval Dress Isabel, blue-red

The look and cut of this dress are based on archeological finds (6th c. woman's grave find in Asseln, district of Dortmund, Germany) and early medieval illustrations (9th c. Stuttgart Psalter). The garb of the Early Middle Ages was characterized by long outerwear, simple patterns mainly consisting of rectangles sewn together, and colour contrasting details. The dress is thus ideal for the portrayal of Vikings, Lombards, Merovingians and Franks.

Amazing dress. I have the opposite body type of most women in that I carry my weight in my arms and chest so I ordered this a size up in the 2XL and the underdress I got in the 1x. That was a perfect decision as this dress was slightly too loose on my bottom half which I appreciated because you can always get it tailored down and have some hidden zipper put in but its harder to get it tailored up a size. It was roomy enough also to then fit the underdress I got which was quite thick. Everyone is always a princess or something but this was very refreshing in that you actually felt like an everyday person from that era. It came a day early and the material is thick but very very comfortable and not rough or itchy. Super quality, looked great. Size up for outer dresses if you are not sure because you can just get them adjusted. Worth every penny and will def buy from them again
