A leather helmet is lighter and more comfortable and more suitable for some armour than the metal one. Helmets have undergone considerable development throughout history. Their design was subject to period changes and responded to new weapons. Leather is one of the oldest materials used, but unfortunately it did not protect as well as metal helmets.
