Erbach Sword about 1480

This sword rests in the Schloss Erbach Armoury and is a fine example of a high medieval/renaissance sword (classified as an Oakeshott type XVIII A). This is truly a beautiful example of a bastard sword, effective in the cut and the thrust. Can be seen in Records of the Medieval Sword by Ewart Oakeshott. The sword is with regard to its length very light-weigted, which is due to the double hollow grind of the blade. More information...

The steel parts are highly decorative and the high carbon steel blade is lightly hollow ground, giving the sword a great feel with one or two hands.
