During the Renaissance most people carried on them some weapon. Large daggers were very common at that time. Although cannons were already in steady use on the battlefields, portable firearms were still very much a work in progress and civilians still sorted their differences with blades. In most cities a large dagger, alongside with common sense, was a man’s best bet. This dagger has a high quality hand forged high carbon steel blade, and the pommel and cross-guard are cast brass.
