Historical Background

Knee-length breeches became a staple of men's fashion across Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries throughout the Renaissance and Baroque eras. Worn by men of all social classes, from common sailors to wealthy merchants, their voluminous cut allowed unhindered movement. Tucking or tying the leg below the knee made them ideal for wearing alongside high riding boots or tall stockings. Sailors and privateers during the Age of Sail favored this style to avoid excess fabric catching on ship rigging.

Garment Care & Maintenance

To preserve the deep black shade and fabric integrity, machine wash these breeches on a gentle cycle at or below 30 °C (86 °F) using mild detergent formulated for dark fabrics. Do not use bleach. Air dry by hanging or laying flat. Avoid using a tumble dryer to prevent shrinkage of the natural cotton fibers. Iron on a medium heat setting if necessary.

Note: Additional garments and props shown in the photographs (such as the green shirt, leather boots, firearms, or powder horn) are not included with this item.
