The most important rule for any crossbow owner is: keep it waxed. Apply string wax to all exposed fibres (areas without serving) and rub it in vigorously with your fingers. The friction heat helps the wax penetrate deep into the strand core. Avoid waxing the servings where the string contacts the rail or the cams; instead, use a dedicated silicone-based rail lube. After shooting in damp conditions, always wipe down the string and let it air dry before storage.

What to Avoid: Never use household oils or solvents on your string, as they can chemically break down the synthetic fibres. Most importantly, never dry-fire your crossbow. Without the mass of a bolt to absorb the energy, the string will likely snap instantly, causing dangerous limb failure and destroying your equipment.
