Scottish Sporrans

Sporran is a small leather bag, which is usually worn on the kilt. It performs the same function as pockets, because the Scottish kilts have no pockets. Scottish sporran is usually positioned in front of the groin of the wearer. It can be made from leather or fur. It is often decorated with different patterns and accessories, such as hair of wild animals. The name of this bag (“sporran”) comes from Scottish Gaelic and its meaning is "purse".  Different types of sporrans are used by Scots. Simple bag is used during weekdays, larger and more ornate “dress sporran” is used during special days. Next type of sporran is "Horsehair sporran". It is most often worn by Scottish pipers or soldiers of British troops (Highlanders).

You can wear the Scottish sporrans and bags, even if you are not Scotsman. Sporrans are suitable for journeys, when you need have some little things on you (keys, Mobil phone or coins). They can also improve your Scottish costume during various occasions.
