Bag shaped as a pouch

This pleated bag from the end of the 14th century used to be an everyday accessory of the middle stratum of peasants and craftsmen. The front piece is pleated with a leather lace. It is made of ground cowhide dyed in rich colour. The back part with the flap is made of up to 2.5cm thick smooth cowhide. The bag shaped as a pouch is worn suspended from the belt via a loop which forms part of the flap. A decoration in the form of a stylised leaf is imprinted along the entire edge of the flap.
