Antiquity is a specific period in history. This period refers to the Graeco-Roman phase of ancient times. The origins of Greek civilization and the first written records of Homer's poetry are taken for the beginning of antiquity.

Ancient dress had no cut. It was a piece of fabric that was tied using various buckles and cords on the body. Purely Greek ladies’ clothes were called peplos. Poorer women wore peplos from coarse fabrics; rich women wore peplos from finer fabrics. Richer women decorated their clothes with golden ribbons. Women and men wore a coat over their clothes. The coat was composed of one piece of fabric and buckle. It was worn in the winter or in bad weather.

People often walk barefoot in ancient times. They sometimes wore leather sandals. Various strips and ribbons wrapped around the body served to the people as underwear. Long hairs were plaited and decorated in all possible ways. Ladies’ hairs were without headgears, sometimes draped in corners of dresses.

Advisory Service: Questions and Answers

What is the difference between industrially rolled and hand-forged blades?

In the case of hand-forged blades, our blacksmith takes the already rolled spring steel and forges it by hand on the anvil or under the drop hammer. The steel gets more solid (denser) by forging. In the case of industrially rolled spring steel blades, the sheets of steel plate is cut to strips under drop snips, then ground or milled and immediately forged into the annealing furnace and oil-quenched. The properties of both kinds of steels are not very different, since industrial rolling is already very good! On forged blades are usually blacksmith marks, which give them an authentic and unique look.
